*DEMOT Affordable Housing Plan is a counter-competition for the transformation of the former European Commission buildings at Rue Demot 24 and 28 in Brussels.
The irony is hard to ignore: these two modernist blocks currently house the Commission’s Housing Taskforce, the very body meant to address Europe’s housing crisis. Yet under current redevelopment plans, their conversion into housing will not deliver social housing and will not create any truly affordable homes.
*DEMOT calls for alternative visions: proposals that rethink financing, ownership, architecture, and program to imagine how these buildings could truly become homes for people to live in. A chance for the European Union to live up to their values!

*DEMOT Plan Voor Betaalbare Woningen is een alternatief voorstel voor de herbestemming van de voormalige gebouwen van de Europese Commissie aan de Rue Demot 24 en 28 in Brussel.
De ironie is moeilijk te negeren: in deze twee modernistische flatgebouwen is momenteel de Taskforce Huisvesting van de Commissie gevestigd, juist de instantie die de Europese huisvestingscrisis moet aanpakken. Toch zal de verbouwing tot woningen volgens de huidige herontwikkelingsplannen geen sociale woningen opleveren en geen echt betaalbare woningen creëren.
*DEMOT roept op tot alternatieve visies: voorstellen die financiering, eigendom, architectuur en programma heroverwegen om te bedenken hoe deze gebouwen echt woningen kunnen worden waar mensen kunnen wonen. Een kans voor de Europese Unie om haar waarden waar te maken!
